Team Voice Rooms

Give each team a private voice room for the duration of a queue match.

Team Voice Rooms is an optional queue setting for team matches. When a match starts, GotNext creates private Team 1 and Team 2 voice rooms in the same Discord category as the dedicated match channel.

The setting is off by default. It does not apply to 1v1 queues.

Enable team voice rooms

  1. 1

    Open the queue

In the web dashboard, select your Discord server, open Queues, and choose a team queue.

  2. 2

    Enable per-match channels

Open the queue's channel settings and turn on Per-Match Channels. Team voice rooms use the same category as the private match text channel.

  3. 3

    Turn on Team voice rooms

Enable Team voice rooms, then save the queue. The setting applies only to that queue.

Player flow

When the match starts, the private match message includes:

  • Join Team 1 Voice
  • Join Team 2 Voice

Each button opens the room assigned to that team. Players who are not part of that team cannot see or connect to its room. Match-channel moderator and caster roles can access both rooms.

The rooms are temporary. They close shortly after the match is completed and close immediately when a match is cancelled or voided. The private text channel keeps its normal cleanup delay so reporting, evidence, commendations, and Run It Back remain available.

Optional automatic moving

Server owners can turn on Automatically move connected players in the server's Match Channels settings.

When it is enabled:

  • GotNext makes one attempt to move players who are already connected to a voice channel.
  • Players who are not connected use the join buttons when they are ready.
  • A missing permission or an individual move failure does not stop the match.
  • The bot does not wait for a player to connect later and then move them unexpectedly.

Creating team voice rooms does not automatically move anyone by itself. The queue setting and the server-wide automatic move setting are independent and both are optional.

Discord permissions

GotNext needs these Discord permissions in the configured category:

  • Manage Channels to create and remove the temporary rooms.
  • Manage Permissions to keep each room private to the correct team.
  • Connect so the bot can manage access to the rooms.
  • Move Members only when automatic moving is enabled.

The standard GotNext install requests these permissions. Category-specific overrides can still block them, so check the category when rooms do not appear.

GotNext does not record, transcribe, or store voice audio.

Match lifecycle

  • Auto Match: Rooms are created after the teams are assigned.
  • Schoolyard Pick: Rooms are created after the captain draft is complete.
  • Substitutions: The outgoing player loses access and the substitute receives access to the correct team room.
  • Run It Back: The rematch receives a new pair of voice rooms.
  • Creation failure: The match continues in its private text channel and reports the voice-room problem without cancelling the match.
